BY
The Cobbler-in-chief
Some things remain timeless. That’s how we feel about our traditional over 100-step manufacturing process that has been the basis of handcrafting our footwear since 1948. Most men are best served by having one or two pairs of CLASSIC, TIMELESS, Goodyear Welted formal dress shoes. Invented by Charles Goodyear Jr over 100 years ago the Goodyear Welted Construction is still considered the finest method of shoe construction today, a technique which has been mastered by the craftsmen and women at the factory.
It gets its strength, durability and repair qualities by stitching the upper leather, lining and welt (a welt is a strip of specially prepared leather or a suitable substitute) to the ribbing that has already been bonded to the insole. The welt is then stitched to the sole. In order to restore your shoes to near new condition, it is this final stitch, holding the sole in place, which can be cut through enabling the complete removal of the sole without damaging the upper.
A layer of shock -absorbent cork is filled in the cavity of the sole which molds to your foot shape during wear. These extra layers provide more structure and support for the foot and may be less flexible until worn in. These shoes are meticulously made using the finest leathers that breathe and repel moisture, hold their shape and age gracefully. Please follow the care instructions to extend the life of your Goodyear Welted shoe.
